Short-lived superbike
Put on the market in 1983, the CB 1100 F marked the return in strength of Honda to the super-bike niche, which was shared between the Kawasaki GPZ/ZX and Suzuki GSX 1100.

Proven Solutions
In contrast to its policy of that time that regarded technical innovation as having prime importance (as with the onslaught of the V2/V3/V4 models and the adoption of 16- inch wheels and of aluminum chassis), with this 1100 the Japanese giant contented itself with tried and trusted solutions and aesthetics that had already proved their charms on the Bol d’Or.

Brief Career
That said, the newcomer was nearer the sporty 1100 R, which was defending the colors of the marque in production races, than it was to the 900. The CB 1100 F had the twin-cam, 16-valve four-cylinder engine of the CB 1100 R in a mildly detuned version with the power cut from 120 to 110 hp, while the frame had been given the strengthening and other improvements already seen on the R. However, on the road, the CB 1100 F was reminiscent of the Bol d’Or. Its riding position, the sensation of heaviness at low speeds and the lazy reactions of the chassis, made the CB slow to respond to spirited handling. On the other hand, it was a very quick road-bike, well-balanced (though its suspension, with its immense range of adjustment, was rare) and magnificently served by a splendid and powerful engine. The final evolution of the Bol d’Or line, the CB 1100 F only had a brief career and disappeared from the Honda catalogue after 1984.
