Crisis? What crisis?
Gas-Gas was founded in Gerona in 1982 by Narcis Casas and Josep Maria Gibemat to make bicycles. The firm announced in 1985 that it was going to build trials bikes and signed Gabino Renales as works rider. At a time when the other Spanish manufacturers were in decline and Montesa was coming under the control of Honda, the idea seemed crazy.

Championship
No one could have foreseen that Jordi Tarres would become World Trials Champion in 1993, riding a machine prepared by the Gas-Gas competition department that was headed by Josep Paxau.

Unpredictable
But nobody would have dared express the slightest doubt when Gas-Gas announced in 1989 its intention of revitalizing another market that appeared to have gone into a nose-dive, that of enduro. Those Catalans were so unpredictable! Jordi Carons and Jordi Pares won some notable victories in this discipline in 1990, Ferran Serarols became 80cc Champion of Spain in 1991 and finally Josep Rivera of Gas-Gas became 125cc Champion of Europe in 1993. To celebrate his victory, the marque launched a “client” version of the winning bike at the end of the year. Powered by Italian TM engines, this bike was available in three displacements (75, 80 and 125cc) with a common cycle, and all one had to do to compete in motocross was to remove the lighting system. The Enducross followed the distinctive layout of the Gas-Gas trials bike, with a frame whose two upper main beams enclosed the tank, as on modem racing bikes.
